BEHIND THE MUSIC
Meet Johnny Z
Musician. Songwriter. Storyteller.
John Zarra is a Hudson Valley-based musician, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist whose musical journey spans decades of performing, recording, and creating.
Equally at home with a guitar, mandolin, keyboard, or horn, John draws inspiration from blues, jazz, country, and the rich musical traditions of New Orleans.
Through Alice Marie Music, established in 1996, John has continued to pursue his passion for original music and independent recording.
His latest album, Swamp Kat, brings together unforgettable characters, mysterious bayou stories, humor, and a little New Orleans magic. The musical world extends beyond the recordings into his companion book, The Legend of the Swamp Kat.
For John, music has always been about more than notes and melodies. It's about the stories we tell, the people we meet, and the journeys that stay with us.
